![]() ![]() That seems to be the usual approach for live-action musical features in recent years. As a producer, there’s doubtlessly some built-in appeal in bringing an existing Broadway show to the screen-either a well-worn classic or a recent hit. I’m glad you brought up the original musical factor, because that’s been on my mind as well. Perhaps people would like to experience that idealism at the theater, and maybe wish they could experience it in real life. I also think there’s an idealism in the film, and perhaps our present times are supportive of that in a way. ![]() ![]() I think that’s brought some people back to the theaters, to see the two of them paired again. Some people perhaps saw in Crazy Stupid Love and liked their dynamic in that film. Hepburn and Tracy come to mind, in that they’re interesting and fun to watch together. I also think that Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are already becoming one of the classical screen couples in the way that recalls some of the great couples from the past. I think that people in a wide variety of age groups can connect with that, because almost everyone has something in their life that reminds them of the scenarios in the film. Another would be that it’s a film about dreamers, and about roads taken and not taken. That’s one thing that’s driving people to the theaters. One is that I think there’s an interest in an original musical, and once people have heard that there’s one out there that both fans and non-fans of musicals enjoy, I think people are curious about that. The most likely explanations I can think of are two. Do you have any sense personally as to why it’s connected with so many people? The film has already passed the $200 million mark in box office receipts, and is on track to make its original budget back tenfold. But the public reaction in general has been overwhelming. There’s been a lot of critical back-and-forth about La La Land: effusive praise, the inevitable backlash, and the equally inevitable counter-backlash. Louis Magazine film critic Andrew Wyatt to talk about the connection that La La Land has made with viewers, about the changes he’s observed in the film industry, and about the benchmarks on his path from acting in a guerilla short film in high school to a career as a prolific, award-winning film and television producer. ![]() Louis director George Hickenlooper ( Dogtown, The Big Brass Ring) to hits from director Jason Reitman ( Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air), to the Sundance smash Little Miss Sunshine.īeugg sat down with St. After over 20 years as a producer, his credits run from early indie dramas by the late St. Louis native Michael Beugg has come a long way from the days when he left a job in energy and environmental policy in Washington, D.C. As the first position Executive Producer for the audience and critical favorite, St. The magick circle on the ground is acting a seal during the spell that binds and creates a union between the spellcaster and The Archangel Michael. There’s a chance that in about a week’s time, La La Land will be sweeping the Oscars. This radiant colorful glare is a metaphor for the brightness of light from the illumination of the soul. This, for me, was a reference to the “peacock" stage in alchemy. A secondary halo is the iridescent rainbow effect seen as a flair. The white traditional halo is to make a reference to the now angelic incarnate spellcaster. Also the blackening stage is the first stage of turning lead into gold, doubling up the the gold armor reference. My spellcaster receives that golden armor after focusing massive amounts of fire energy into his third eye. Also in a different visualization the Archangel Michael is wearing golden armor. In a visualization of Michael of Hod the angel is dressed in orange robes, so I made sure to have my character wearing orange pants. The triangle in many forms represents fire so I tried to sneak triangles into all elements of the composition. This will purify him before receiving the spirit of the angel. This is why the character in my spell is being introduced to immense fire to start the spell. This stage is defined by introducing metal to fire and burning away all the impurities of the metal. Also fire is a key element for the purification process in Alchemy known as the blackening stage. Fire is the attribute of the Archangel Michael. There are a few pieces of the symbolism that are drawn from Angelic Magick, Alchemy, and Hermetic Qabalah.įire plays an important role in both my spell and hermetic symbolism. The main idea for the spell was imagined from a chaotic form of angelic magick. In fact the reason I was able to playback the RBD cache, in a way that was stable, was due to the 5.1.1 patch that allows for smoother playback of the chaos cache manager… so thank you devs…thank you! I used Chaos to create the upward ground explosion. ![]()
